Gannon Alexander Gannon Alexander has been performing live music in some form or another for over twenty-five years. His musical roots and early influences were the first generation British invasion rockers. As a kid, these legends and their American influences set the framework for Gannon’s vast musical palate. Starting at the tender age of thirteen, Gannon has experimented with a variety of styles; from Punk, Funk, Soul, Ska, Pop, Country, Bluegrass, Heavy Metal, Glam, Blues, straight-up Rock, Folk and even performing light Opera. As front man, singer or guitarist for many bands over the years, Gannon knows instinctively how to win over a crowd and pull people into a performance. With a flare for showmanship and raw energy, audiences can always count on being a part of the experience. “I tend to write from the gut about things everyone can relate to. Even if the subject matter pertains to (which it often does) the darker side of the human experience. I think turmoil is very interesting. In my observations some of the best writings and subject matter stem from being uncomfortable. Who wants to constantly listen to drivel about sunshine and lollypops and happy people in love?” But don’t let all that seriousness fool you. It’s hard not to get caught up in the moment and energy, of any live performance with Gannon. From soaring tender vocals and harmonies, to the gravel and grit of a world-weary blues singer every show is punctuated by a heartfelt performance. Gannon’s current project “Uses For Wood” is the realization of a close four-year collaboration with musician Colin Murphy. There is an unmistakable chemistry between these two artists who have come together from two different worlds and generations to find a common ground that is uniquely their own. “Colin and I have played together so much over the past few years, and become such good friends that we are at that point where we intuitively know how to compliment each other musically.” With three CD’s written and produced by the duo, and countless shows together under their belts; Gannon and Colin really sound as if they have always been playing music together. As if that wasn’t enough, many select Uses For Wood shows include the talented young singer and resonator guitarist Lucciana Costa. The duo and trio in addition are sometimes joined by one of the hottest rhythm sections around, featuring John Latini on bass and Jim Latini or Teddy Ribbons on drums. From small acoustic venues as a duo or a trio with Gannon, Colin and Lucciana, to the full blown five-piece entourage Uses for Wood are bringing the house down. The feedback from these shows has been nothing less than overwhelming. With every performance delivered with the energy of a freight train and with their own brand of on the edge roots/blues/folk/rock/alt.country or whatever they are calling great music these days, these guys, and Gannon Alexander are no less than the real thing! Also joined by John Latini for select shows |
